Said “Goodbye” to Kakadu lodge today and moved to Mary River Park. Our base between Kakadu and Darwin as we travel back and forth to get the rear windscreen repaired again.
Nice place on the banks of the Mary River. Fortunately we got a powered site as we are still having battery trouble and the fridge was off again.
Heaps of croc warning signs everywhere. Cameron asked the receptionist if there were any good places on the river bank that he could take the kids fishing and received a very definite “No, stay 5m away from the river” in response to his question. Those warning signs are definitely not there for show.
Great afternoon spent cruising the Mary River. We hired a 4.8m polycraft from the caravan park and spent a couple of hours croc spotting and teaching the kids to drive a boat.
Cameron tried some fishing, but got no bites. At least the packed fishing gear finally got used.
Kids had a blast driving the boat.
I had a minor meltdown – something to do with concerns about novice drivers crashing into snags in the river and tipping us all into croc infested waters. I’m such a fuss pot! We saw 8 large salt water crocs while we were boating.
Kids found a super bug at camp called Rainbow Magic. There were many tears when buggy flew away.
Back to Darwin today for window repair #2. Arranged to meet up with Barnaby & his parents at the Botanic Gardens. Ended up having a Darwin Cuppa (also known as beer) at the Darwin Golf Club. Barnaby brought me back my lost sunnies which had been handed in at the Noonamah Tavern. Hooray! Thanks Barnaby & Maree!
Kids had fun in the giant treehouse in the Botanic Gardens.
Maccas for lunch while we waited for the window to be tinted. It’s so nice to have unbroken glass again.
Picked up all the things on our shopping list including a battery charger and some groceries before heading back to Mary River Park.
We’re really looking forward to going to Gunlom Falls in Kakadu tomorrow.
